Help with DownAcross

Keep the puzzle going.

A missing board, a clue that doesn’t read, or a question about your player data? Start here.

Include what happened, whether you were using the app or a browser, and your device and app version if available. A screenshot can help. Leave out passwords, authentication tokens and information you do not want to share.

Joining a friend

Open the invitation link, or go to Join a puzzle and enter the six-character code. In the app, choose Join and enter the same code. Each board has room for up to eight players.

Online boards need an internet connection. If joining fails, check the code with your friend and try again when your connection is available.

Returning to your board

Use the same browser and device, or return through the app you played in. Keep the invitation link so you can reopen the board. A different browser or device starts with a separate player identity.

Private browsing or clearing browser storage can lose access to your previous identity. Avoid clearing site data as a troubleshooting step if you want to keep your player history.

Playing regularly with the same people

Create a puzzle group or choose Keep this group together from a board. Share the puzzle-group invitation with one person at a time. Each invitation admits one new member before it expires; any current member can make a fresh invitation for the next person.

After joining, the puzzle group stays in that member’s lobby and carries the active roster into each new puzzle without another code. A group can have eight active members and one current puzzle. If a current board already has eight historical seats, a newly admitted member waits for the next puzzle.

A puzzle group belongs to the anonymous identity saved in that app installation or browser. Its stable group link does not recover access on a different device. Leaving stops future seating but keeps earlier contributions. Archiving hides the group only from your own lobby until you restore it; blocking someone also removes you from groups you share with that account.

Something wrong with a puzzle?

On the board, open Settings and choose Tell us about this puzzle. Choose whether the issue concerns a word, clue, something broken or something else, then tell us what you noticed.

Reports include the available puzzle and clue context and are read when the puzzles are next worked on. The reporting tool does not send email or provide a reply. If you need a response, use the email address above.

Report a player or board

Use the player controls in a board’s Settings to report a participant or the board. Choose a reason and add detail if it helps explain the issue. A report includes the board and reported player, when selected, and a snapshot of their displayed names. Other players cannot read it.

Keep the report receipt if you contact support. Reporting does not automatically block or penalize another player, send email or provide a personal reply. For a response, email the address above with the receipt and relevant context.

Keep player names and board titles respectful. Do not use hate speech, targeted harassment or threats. When reviewing a report, we can replace its reported name or title with a neutral label while preserving puzzle contributions. If a label change seems mistaken, contact support with the report receipt when you have it.

Block and leave shared puzzles

Blocking an account leaves every puzzle you share with it and prevents those accounts from joining the same boards. Your contributions stay for your teammates, who can continue playing and start their next puzzle.

You can manage blocked accounts from Settings in the app or Your player data in the browser. Unblocking does not automatically rejoin a puzzle. Open an eligible invitation to join again. A block applies to that player account; someone using a different guest account has a different identity.

Shared play paused for your account

An operator can restrict shared play for an account after reviewing a participant report. A restriction prevents that account from joining or changing shared puzzles. Your existing contributions stay with your teammates. Reports alone do not automatically impose a restriction.

You can still use support, submit reports, manage blocked players and delete your account. If the restriction seems mistaken, email the address above with the restriction reference shown in the app or browser. Keep using the same saved identity; do not clear your app or browser data as a troubleshooting step.

Refresh your account status to check the current decision. Restrictions require explicit operator restoration. After restoration, previously available boards can load again under your unchanged block and archive settings; stopped letters are not resent. You may need to join a next puzzle separately if it was started while your account was restricted.

When you get stuck

Open the board’s Settings to check how many letters are wrong, show the wrong letters or reveal the answers. Revealing affects everyone on the board, and revealed squares do not earn anyone points.

Your privacy and player data

You do not need an email address or password to play. An anonymous online identity remembers your boards and contributions.

To remove it, use Delete account and data in the app’s Settings or open Your player data on the website. Read what deletion removes and what remains on shared boards before continuing. For help accessing, correcting or deleting data, email us.
